Show #52 FB Card Collector Podcast + 2010 Bowman Baseball
Thursday May 13, 2010
Thursday May 13, 2010
So much jammed into this show - that the title can't even fit everything that we have going on. We bring you another interview with a Sports Trading Card Podcaster, and we discuss three new product releases this week. Chris from The Football Card Collector Podcast joins us to discuss some of the things you can expect from his program and a little about his collection. We discuss upcoming 2010 Football Card Releases along with some of the rookies that might make an impact this season. Be sure to join Chris in his box breaks along with the fellow listeners. 2010 Bowman Baseball is as hot as I can remember a Bowman set ever being. It all revolves around 3 players autographs - Stephen Strasburg, Jason Heyward and Starlin Castro. Be careful to not get wrapped up in the hype as this product can become expensive if you are opening it by the box. By the end of the season, this product may not look quite as nice as it does not - or it could look better if the prospects and rookies play well. Tough call - but be careful not to overspend here early. 09/10 Panini Timeless Treasures Not exactly everyone's favorite product, but it is a good attempt at a 'new' product from Donruss/Panini to establish itself in the basketball card market for next season. I've got to say - some of these single cards will be worth checking out if you are a bball fan. More deep checklists and interesting inserts to chase after - and Panini could have a winner here in the long run. 2010 Playoff Prestige Football Not sure if its even called Playoff Prestige anymore - but same difference. Collectors will again complain here that this set looks an awful lot like many other mid-low priced Panini Products. You can tell not a bunch of time was spent on this set, but these early big-print run sets tend to get pumped out quick because the company wants to get the product out as fast as it can. We'll see if collectors look past all that and scoop up Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford no matter what a card looks like...my guess is that they will. - Listen To Show #52 Below -

Show #51 2010 NFL Draft Picks + May Releases
Thursday May 06, 2010
Thursday May 06, 2010
The NFL draft has concluded and most of the top picks were actually defensive players. However the offensive players taken, including Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen should have a huge hobby impact even if they don't play much in their first season. We talk about the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft and how some of those players might make an impact in your collection. May is a big time release date for some good products and we talk about a few of them. Be sure to tune into future shows where we discuss more of these sets in depth: 2010 Bowman Baseball - May 12, 2010 This year's Bowman baseball stands out as it will have autograph cards of several top prospects in baseball including Stephen Strasburg, Aroldis Chapman and Jason Heyward. The checklist is large and has been recently updated. Find the complete set and more by following the link above. 2010 Panini Prestige Football - May 12, 2010 This years first licensed football cards make their way onto the market this week. The latest draft picks including Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford and many more will be on cards featuring their team colors and information. The RC cards will feature draft day photos and the checklist is fairly large and should be a great way to start the 2010 football season off. 2009/10 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball - May 12, 2010 This is ones of Panini's largest checklists to date. There are many autographs and parallels contained within this set making it one of the more exciting releases to date. With Absolute Memorabilia and Court Kings to follow, it will be interesting to see if basketball collectors spend big on a set like this. 2009/10 Panini Absolute Memorabilia Basketball - May 19, 2010 This popular football release is sure to be a hit with basketball collectors. The jersey cards and autographs look great and the checklist is fairly large. Expect many basketball collectors to be running light in the wallet after this and Timeless Treasures Basketball come out within 1 week of each other. 2010 Topps Series 2 Baseball - May 27, 2010 With the popularity of the Topps Million Card Give-A-Way and many other SP variation cards, collectors are surely waiting for Topps Series 2 baseball. The checklist is massive and considering how much Series 1 boxes have gone up in price recently - expect this product to do the same. Show #50 Upper Deck Fumbles Football + Voice of the Collector Interview
Monday Apr 12, 2010
Monday Apr 12, 2010
We are half way to show #100 and this may be our best podcast to date. We are joined today by Rob from Voice of the Collector & Card Corner Club - we discuss Rob's start in the hobby and his regular podcast he co-hosts with Doug C. every Friday night at 11pm CST. We also talk about Upper Deck not making football cards in the near future along with what might become of this once dominant card manufacture. Vintage Card collectors should be excited as we cover some of my thoughts on how to start building a vintage card collection from the ground up. I am planning on charting Willie Mays PSA/BGS Graded Topps Baseball Cards and see if I should purchase the cards graded or hunt for un-graded copies at card shows and online. I will be sharing more information on this on future shows. Finally we answer a few Fan Forum questions about Upper Deck loosing its football license and come up with theories and thoughts about where this company is going go in the future. A great show! Show #49 2009 UD Exquisite + 2010 Press Pass Football + Contests
Thursday Apr 01, 2010
Thursday Apr 01, 2010
Two very exciting sets come out this week for Football Fans. First we talk about some of the big hits and exciting cards to be pulled from 2009 Upper Deck Exquisite Football. It appears that Michael Crabtree rookie cards are selling very well along with Mark Sanchez and some of the legends in the set like Barry Sanders. 2010 Press Pass Football marks the first release with certified Tim Tebow and many other future 2010 NFL Draft Pick Autograph and Jersey Cards. This is an interesting set because of the Red Ink and Inscription variation autograph cards. You can find the complete 2010 Press Pass Football Checklist and more at Sports Card Radio. 2010 Razor Legends of the Diamond and SAGE High Series Football are two products we cover briefly on the tail end of the show. Both of these products are worth taking a look at for different reasons. 2010 Razor Legends of the Diamond is essentially a re-packaged PSA 7 + vintage pre 1970 baseball product ... where you are paying for the chance at big hits like a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Autograph. SAGE High Series will be worth taking a look at once the 2010 NFL Draft shakes out. Its possible that despite Press Pass locking up guys like Tim Tebow and CJ Spiller that they aren't the top rookies that everyone is after ... meaning a product like SAGE might have more 'Top Rookies' than people think ... only time will tell. --- CONTESTS ---- #1 - Send your Hobby Tips / Stories / Essays / to us for a chance to win a box break spot for 2010 National Chicle Baseball. Contest entry deadline is April 30, 2010 so you will want to get on this soon! sportscardshow@gmail.com #2 There are still spots left in our Basketball Box Break (only a few) - I would like everyone to decide what box they want to bust from these 4 future Panini Basketball Releases: 09/10 Panini Absolute Memorabilia Basketball box 09/10 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball Box 09/10 Panini Court Kings Basketball Box 09/10 Panini Crown Royale Basketball Box Please Visit Our Official Website: www.sportscardradio.com Send Me An E-Mail: sportscardshow@gmail.com - Listen To Show #49 Below -

Show #48 2010 Topps Finest Baseball + 09/10 Panini Classics Basketball
Friday Mar 19, 2010
Friday Mar 19, 2010
Two nice products come out in the coming weeks for Baseball and Basketball collectors to check out and we cover both of those products. We also talk about how to make money breaking down mini boxes and selling them online. 2010 Topps Finest Baseball 2 (6 Pack) Mini Boxes per Hobby Box Look For 1 Autograph card per mini box and 1 2010 RC redemption card in each hobby box. There are plenty of letterman patch autograph 'true' baseball rookies like Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey along with 18 other rookies. Expect to pay around $100 for a complete box when it comes out March 24, 2010. 09/10 Panini Classics Basketball 18 Pack - 5 Cards Per Pack Look for 4 autograph or jersey cards per box with at least 1 auto. A sealed box will set you back around $95, however this is one of the final 'mid level' price point proucts that Panini has planned for 2009/10 season. 09/10 Panini Court Kings, 09/10 Panini Absolute Memorabilia, 09/10 Panini Crown Royale and 09/10 Panini Timeless Treasures are all sets that Panini has planned that will be higher end products that will deliver less cards on a pack/box basis. Panini Classics and the recently release 09/10 Panini Studio Basketball may be sets to look into if you enjoy opening lots of pack & cards. Our last segment is a good one for those who are in the business of selling cards online, or those that just want to know a bit more about the topic. Ryan from www.sportscardreport.info describes how you can purchase boxes of 2009 Bowman Sterling Baseball on eBay and re-sell them at a higher price. Show #47 2010 Topps Pro Debut Baseball + Nick From BBallCardPro
Tuesday Mar 16, 2010
Tuesday Mar 16, 2010
2010 Topps Pro Debut Series 1 Baseball This is Topps first product using the MiLB license that they obtained several months ago. This is for the prospector or the Rookie Card collector as you won't find the veterans and stars in the MLB. Only Minor League Baseaball's brightest stars (and a few young MLB Prospects like Madison Bumgarner) There are 24 packs per box - 8 Cards Per Pack 1 Jersey Card Per Box + 2 Autograph Cards Keep in mind this is Series 1 so we expect some of the 2009 MLB draft picks to make it into Series 2. A cool debut product from Topps, worth taking a look at if you are a rookie or baseball prospect collector. 2010 Sage Low Series Football This product contains 6 Autographs per box, which will set you back around $100. There are no Tim Tebow, Golden Tate and a handful of other notable rookies autographs in this set because they have deals with Press Pass. Be sure to take a look at the checklist on this product before you spend some hard earned money and realize that many draft picks are not in the set. BballCardPro.com - Nick Sabo joins us and gives us some insight on what he collects and how he talks about it on his recently started website. Be sure to check out this young bloggers site and support him. Show #46 Top 2010 Major League Baseball MLB Prospects Show
Tuesday Mar 09, 2010
Tuesday Mar 09, 2010
The 2010 MLB Prospect Kick-Off Show is here! We talk about over 20 young MLB prospects that may make an impact soon. This is a great episode for anyone looking for baseball prospects to collect. All the information on today's 1 Hour Show can be found on our official website here: 2010 MLB Top Prospect List. Below are a few players we cover on today's podcast: Austin Jackson RC Cards This prospect started in the New York Yankees organization and is now playing for the Detroit Tigers. He has a nice Donruss Elite Extra Edition Autograph Rookie that may go up this season as he is projected to be a starter in Detroit. Stephen Strasburg RC Cards This hard throwing right hander was the #1 overall draft pick in 2009 by the Washington Nationals. He is expected to start the season in the minors but could see time in the MLB by the end of the season. Jason Heyward RC Cards This is the #1 Prospect in all of baseball. This hard hitting OF for the Atlanta Braves should see some time in the MLB this season. Be careful buying his cards ... often hyped rookies have to really play well for them to keep going up. Jason Heyward may be one of those players when his career is finished. Jeremy Hellickson RC Cards This young pitcher should find a spot on the Tampa Bay Rays roster this season, however he would be much farther up the pitching rotation on most other teams. Jeremy Hellickson shows great command and control when on the mound pitching. This could be a great prospect to purchase before he gets his chance in the MLB. You can also find the low budget prospect we talk about at the tail end of the show on our Low Price 2010 MLB Prospects To Watch. - Listen To Show #46 Below -

Show #45 Upper Deck & MLB Settle + 09/10 Panini Studio Basketball
Saturday Mar 06, 2010
Saturday Mar 06, 2010
We learn the details of the MLBP and Upper Deck Lawsuit that we discussed on Show #44. Upper Deck takes the worst of it by canceling their planed 2010 Products, agreeing to pay several millions of dollars to MLB and agreeing not to make sets without clearing them with Major League Baseball in the future. 2009/10 Panini Studio Basketball Checklist This is our only major release of the next week. 09/10 Panini Studio comes out Wednesday March 10, 2010. It will contain an assortment of on-card and sticker autographs including Kobe Bryant, Tyreke Evans and many other top NBA stars. Expect to pay around $75 per box. Find all of our Sports Trading Card Box Reviews Here. Game Used Jersey Cards Our listener question this week is about game-used memorabilia and how collecting full pieces might be a great way to add some excitement to your collection. Show #44 Upper Deck Topps & MLB Legal Battle + 2 Interviews
Tuesday Mar 02, 2010
Tuesday Mar 02, 2010
We have two great interview guest for this weeks show. We catch up with Tim Danielson of the Bench Trading and see how the progress is coming along with the YSL Charity Drive. Later in the show Ryan from www.sportscardreport.info joins us to talk about Upper Deck, Topps and the MLB's courtroom battles. One product of note came out and that was 2010 Topps Heritage Baseball. With only 1 'Hit' per box, this isn't a box-busters dream, however this does make a great product for set collectors and those who love the look and feel of the 'old' baseball cards. Later on in the show we talk about the NFL Combine and some early thoughts on the upcoming baseball season. Lots of great stuff! Jammed into one episode! Show #43 Selling Cards off eBay + National Treasures Football + More
Saturday Feb 06, 2010
Saturday Feb 06, 2010
So many topics covered in The Sports Card Show Podcast today. Recent Trading Card Releases: 2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball This set has everything that we come to expect from Topps and a little extra. The Pie In The Face PITF Short Print SP base cards have been popular with Yankees Collectors. The Topps 1 Million Card Giveaway redemption cards are inserted 1:6 Packs and are a random shot at any base card Topps has ever made. Be sure to check out the full review of 2010 Topps Series 1 Baseball at Sports Card Radio. 2009 Playoff National Treasures Football This set may have lost its luster as a high-end brand as I saw many 1 color and some sticker autographs in some box break videos that I've seen recently of this product. We may have to go back and lower the grade we give this set in our review of 09 National Treasures Football. 2009 Playoff Contenders Football I might even like this set for value over Playoff National Treasures. However the only thing I don't like is that the design takes away from the signature on these cards. 8:12 Boxes contains 5 Autograph Cards instead of 4. Check out the complete SP Rookie Ticket Checklist and our Full Review of 2009 Playoff Contenders Football Here. Selling your cards....just not on eBay: There are many places to sell your cards online. Check Out My Cards has gained popularity over a short period of time with collectors. I give out 4 more other options as well on the show. Just be sure to read through all the terms and conditions before you jump in and spend serious time listing cards on a site you haven't used before. How to price #1/1/Cards Probably the best know method is to compare the price with a comparable #1/1 card. If it is difficult to find a particular player, just comparing him to another player of similar skill and popularity. Because 1/1 cards aren't as 'rare' as they used to be (when they were first hitting the hobby) you can sometimes compare to cards serial #/3 #/5 and lower. We talk about 4 Players that wore #43: Dennis Eckersley - Probably the 2nd best closer of all time after Mariano Rivera, depending on who you ask. Troy Palamalu - Seems like how Troy goes, so goes the Steelers. If he is healthy in 2010, expect the Steelers to be fighting for another Super Bowl. Mychal Thompson - Went to 4 NBA Finals and won 2 NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. Best known for backing up one of the greatest centers of all time Kareem Abdul Jabar. Tom Nelson - Cincinnati Bengals 2009 Rookie - Best known for his coverage on 'Hard Knocks' HBO's TV show about the Bengals 09 Training Camp in Georgetown.
